How to fax from an Android phone
You do not need a fax machine or a fax app to fax from an Android phone. The quickest route is to get your document into a PDF or a photo and send it from a web page, with nothing to install.
Step by step
- Get the document onto your phone. For paper, scan it to a PDF with the Google Drive app (tap the camera button; on some phones it is the plus button, then Scan) or take a clear photo of each page. If you already have a PDF, find it in Files or your email.
- Open faxanything.com in your browser. Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet and others all work.
- Enter the fax number. Type the US or Canadian number, with the area code.
- Choose your document. Tap Choose a file or photo and pick the scan, photo or PDF, or tap Take a photo to use the camera.
- Add your name and email, then send. Check the preview of each page and send. You get an email when it is delivered.
Good to know
- Documents can be up to 20 MB and 25 pages. A scan is usually smaller and sharper than a photo.
- A photo of a page is cleaned up for you: it is turned upright, made black and white and fitted to the paper size.
- If a file is rejected, the message says why. The usual fixes are to save it as a PDF, or to take the photo again.
Questions
Do I need to install an app?
No. Fax Anything runs in your phone’s browser. If you want to scan paper, the Google Drive app has a scan function, but you can use your camera instead.
Can I fax from a tablet?
Yes. It works the same way in a tablet’s browser.
What if I only have a photo of the document?
That is fine. Choose the photo. Make sure the text is sharp and the whole page is in the picture.
